• The Netherlands is calling for tougher vehicle emissions standards and a ban on dirty foreign vehicles in the country on the grounds of unfair competition.
"The National Environmental Policy Plan 2" notes that Dutch trucks are the cleanest in Europe. "Must we therefore permit foreign vehicles to scatter nitrogen dioxides and soot particles as freely as they choose?"asked Ruud Van Yperen, president of the truck and car section of the Dutch society of motor manufacturers and traders at the Amsterdam commercial vehicle show last week.
"The benefits of clean Dutch trucks are being lost. We are in favour of competition as long as it is with the same vehicles and on the same terms," he said.
