Where the driver would normally be forced to change down on a hill, a kick down. device operates to bring in the torque converter, increasing the tractive effort by up to 2.5 times.
To accommodate the slightly longer than standard Fuller box, a 3.1m (10ft 3in) wheelbase vehicle was specified and the conversion has been carried out by Scotts of Nottingham. 4.31it/100km and 3.51it/100km (6.5 mpg and 8 mpg) was the normal return. This has now been levelled out to about 351it/100km (8mpg) for all drivers.
