CHRISTIAN Salvesen (Transport) Ltd, which announced the closure of its Aberdeen depot last week, said it would do all it could to help customers find other methods of carrying produce south.
Salvesen's operations director, Fred Craig, said he did not know how customers would react, but one possibility might be the sale of the company's 64 Aberdeen based refrigerated container vehicles to customers, who could then run their own operations.
Mr Craig, who said the decision to close at Aberdeen had been made only after the depot had been making inadequate returns for a long time, added that the merger of the Christian Salvesen (Transport) and Claben Transport operations in July 1976 had been an effort to cut overheads and combat losses, but the move had not worked.
Mr Craig said the firm has had discussions with the Transport and General Workers Union over the 90 redundancies caused by the closure.
