Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

SOMEONE put up a blackboard notice at a Kent railway station to say the line would close on January 9. But last week trains were still running, 11 each way daily, on the Appledore to New Romney branch line.

The notice had not mentioned closure was subject to Licence from the Traffic Commissioners.

When the Commissioners sat at Canterbury last week, Maj. Gen. A. J. F; Elmslie, Chairman, said: "The Commission must deprecate any such action. I took this up very strongly on the last occasion. The Commissioners will not close the line until we are satisfied about alternative services."

They were hearing objections from Kent County Council and other local authorities on Romney Marsh against proposed bus schedules between Appledore and Greatstone. The Minister of Transport has consented to closure of the rail line if satisfactory buses replace it.

After a three-day hearing the application of East Kent Road Car Co. was granted with amendments to time-tables.
