have had A.'d talks with Mr. John Morris, Parliamentary Secretary for Transport, about British Railways' proposal to withdraw rail facilities from 11 domestic coal depots in their area.
The MPs aired local misgivings about the possible effects on road congestion.
But Mr. Morris explained that the basis of the BR decision was the fact that Nottingham was so near to the coalfields that there was a lot of extremely short-distance wagon-load traffic of a kind that was inherently unprofitable for the railways.
The Ministry had no evidence that the effects of the changeover would produce serious road congestion.
