EXTRA precautions taken to protect goods vehicles from theft during the particularly dangerous period before Christmas are reflected in statistics for the Metropolitan Police district issued by the vehicles' security committee.
Thefts from private premises were down to 386 in the last quarter of 1966, compared with 429 in the corresponding period of 1965 and 464 in 1964. There was also a slight fall in the rate of hi-jackings.
