MR, ARTHUR GEORGE SMITH, director of the Scottish Carriers and Haulage Contractors Association, takes the place of the late Mr. William Anderson as manager of the Glasgow depot.
SIR CHARLES HERBERT SMITH, F.C.A., deputy chairman of Brown Brothers, Ltd., has been appointed by Lord Nuffield as one of the trustees who will be responsible for the administration of the Trust for the Nuffield Fund for Provincial Hospitals.
Majoa W. H. GODDARD has been admitted to full membership of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, of which he became a graduate so long ago as 1896. Our readers will know him as one. of our most versatile correspondents on matters connected with oil engines and, lately, the use of producer gas. Few men in the industry have had such a variety of experience. In 1896 he left England for the Argentine and, with small breaks, was there
until 1914. He has worked in connection with steam locomotives, electricity generating stations, docks, well-boring and the petrol and oil industries, in addition to the activities previously mentioned. He humorously suggests that his next activity may be radio power for road transport, but adds " not just yet."
Mn. F. GRIFFIN, for many years works manager of Commer-Karrier (Midland), Ltd., has resigned his appointment and taken up a position as general manager of Wells and Mayner, Ltd., of Birmingham, which is a distributor for Guy and Atkinson vehicles.
MR. R. VENABLES, 34, Corporation Street, Sheffield, has been appointed an agent, for the Sheffield district, for the petrol-vehicle products of Vulcan Motors, Ltd., as well as for TillingStevens 2, 2i and 3-ton battery-electric vehicles, for which the Vulcan concern is the selling organization.
