Stiller returns to the black after closure and sale

STILLER TRANSPORT says it is back in profit following a tumultuous year that saw the closure of part of its business and the sale of its tanker operation to another North-Eastern haulier.

Andrew Winney, director at the Newton Aycliffe, County Durham, firm, says the company is looking positively to the future. He adds: "Selling the tanker business [to Hargreaves] was a good thing for us. We are more grounded within the facilities that we have. I don't think we are setting records, but we are making a profit,"

He adds that the warehouse at Newton Aycliffe is BO% full and, although its Darton, South Yorkshire site is emptier since the end of a six-month storage contract, with some redundancies made as a result, the firm is talking to a number of customers to fill the space.

Additionally, its pallet volumes through network Palletline are 14% up on this time last year.

W1nhey adds: "We are tolerably optimistic we are holding our own within the confines of the reduced business."
