A spokesman says: The DoT has had to commission a structural survey of the road bridges on the major strategic routes due to concerns being raised as to the suitability of the bridges to cope with the proposed extra weight.
"Once this survey has been completed, the Department will move ahead with the existing proposed increase for articulated vehicles from 38-tonnes to 44-tonnes on designated routes, assuming the bridges are able to handle the increase."
