Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

As coach operators we have to comply with the ban on carrying alcohol to sports meetings. Can you remind us which events are subject to the ban?

I understand it does not include such events as rugby matches at Twickenham, so it would be difficult for us to prohibit alcohol on such a trip.

A The ban, contained in Section 1 of the Sporting Events (Control of Alcohol etc) Act 1985, applies to journeys to or from designated sporting events.

These events are listed in the Sports Grounds and Sporting Events (Designation) Order 1985 and are confined to association football matches so the law does not ban alcohol on coaches taking supporters to rugby matches.

But you could, if you wished, make it a condition of the contract of hire that no alcohol was carried by passengers on the coach.
