The roof system allows Richards to stay within the 4.2m C&U limit at 38 tonnes or to lift it to 4.52m and gain 360mm more roof height when working at 32 tonnes.
Hydraulic rams at each corner of the body raise the top section via controls along the nearside chassis rail.
Rear-end closure is by roller curtains with shoot-bolt locking: the change in height at the front is accommodated by an aerodynamic panel that slides down the outside of the bulkhead.
