COMMERCIAL vehicle production is also increasing, according to the Department of Trade and Industry.

DTI figures for November show that 24,000 vehicles were built in November by British manufacturers, making the monthly average 23,900 this year so far. The figure for 1982 was 22,700, although it was running at 24,200 in November, before production was reduced for Christmas. By October this year, the average was 19,600 a month.

And after more than two years in the doldrums, commercial vehicle production jumped two per cent in West Germany in October and a long-term forecast predicts a strong recovery throughout the Eighties in Europe.

The Swiss-based economics forecasting institute Prognos expects up to the year 2000 an annual average increase of 0.8 per cent in the volume of goods carried by long-distance transport.

Lorry production in West Germany is expected to touch bottom this year at only 278,000 vehicles, climbing to 291,000 in 1984 and an average 314,000 in the years 1983 and 1990.
