A MOBILE adjustable gantry which will make working on -1-1 the top of road tankers safer has been designed and built by C. Morley and Co. Ltd. This has been done following a number of inquiries to the concern from companies operating tankers from which men have fallen and injured themselves whilst carrying out cleaning operations.

The unit consists of a castor-wheeled tower with steps leading up to a platform which can be raised and lowered over a range of 3 ft, by using hand-powered hydraulic rams. This feature allows the unit to be used on tankers of different heights. The lifting platform is made from light alloy, whilst the main structure is of 1-in.-sq. 16 s.w.g. mild-steel tubes. Rubazote rubber pads are fitted underneath the platform to prevent damage to tank insulation.

There is a fixed pad on the centre line and a screw-down adjustable pad situated in a position allowing the various radii of tanks to be accounted for.

Made by: C. Mordey and Co. Ltd., Ebeneezer Road, Kennington Lane, London SE11.

Price: £55O-t600 (subject to specification).

Impact Wrench CLA1MED to be the world's only impact wrench, a new tool known as the Swench is said to be able to loosen frozen nuts with remarkable ease. The tool incorporates a spring-powered head which operates when the handle is moved in an arc around the drive-shaft for more than 30° in a wrenching motion. At this stage the spring power is released in the form of an impact many times greater than the applied force.

Available with drive squares ranging from 0.5 in. to 1.5 in., the tool is suitable for a number of various applications and individual needs. The Swench—so called because it was invented by a man called Swenson—is completely portable, needs no outside power source, fits into the toolbox of any van or lorry and is safe and easy to use.
