DEMONSTRAT1ONS were given recently

by Eiritover • (Continental) Ltd., 13 Belsize Lane, London NW3, of Cibie headlights and auxiliary lights which the company markets in the UK. The venue for the demonstration was Hendon Airport arid those attending were able to compare Cibie units with other makes.

Only cars were used for the demonstrations, but the types of lamp used were suitable for commercial vehicles, although only one fog lamp—the Oscar—is available for 24V.

Like all continental headlamps, the French Cibie units have a dipped beam with a sharpened horizontal cut-off and an assymmetric pattern which puts extra light on the kerb side. It was noticeable that these features reduced glare to oncoming traffic considerably without a corresponding reduction in illumination of the nearside of the road. • Fog and spot lights were very good, particularly those in the latter category with iodine-quartz bulbs, but there appeared to be too much difference between the dipped and main-beam angles in some of the headlight units. On one particular car the dipped beams did not illuminate enough of the road directly in front, whilst the main beams were above the horizontal. This was a British ear converted to Cibie lights, which could have been a factor. French cars at the demonstrations had light patterns which were much better.
