Description of a Weibfini shed Light Van, With a Unique Design

of Body.

OMEONE who obviously had keen tObusiness sense once said," "'Early to bed and early to rise is no earthly good if you don't advertise." A successful method of bringing this truism into effect is to employ a motor vehicle. Business houses are, to a greatly increasing extent, realizing that the commercial motor may, if provided with a special body, constitrite an excellent publicity medium. In the case of sueh motors carrying capacity is" of secondary importance, the primary factor being to, obtain a striking appearance. "Of course, many vehicles, with uniquely designed • bodies, carry little less than those with, similar types of chassis on which normal patterns of bod'y have been mounted.

Auto-Buyers (1922), Ltd., 27, Francis Street, London, W.C.1, has recently supplied a smart publicity veldele to the Davies Tyre Co., The Hyde, Hendon, London, N.W.9, the body having been built by G. Wylder and Co., of Kew, to the order and design of.•the first-named concern. The :basis of the vehicle is the standard Austin 7 h.p. chassis, with a specially

constructed a u b frame. The body is particularly ingeniou.s and is built to represent four Davies tyres stand

ing on edge. The tread of each tyre is of wood and is made in one piece; t h e timber being bent to the required shape. The four treads are joined together by' bands of wood.

The outside walls and centre, panels at the sides of the body are of aluminium, the panels being pivoted at the centre so that they can revolve when the vehicle is in motion, thus giving the impression that • the

tyres are turning. The windscreen and scuttle have been specially built, the latter embodying graceful curves.

The vehicle has a capacity for four large low-pressure tyres or for eight of normal dimensions. They are loaded and • unloaded through an opening in the near side of the front bulkhead, the near-side portion of the scat being detachable. The colour scheme of the body has beeti. carefully studied, the tyres being black with white lettering, whilst the aluminium centre panels are orange and bear black and white lettering. The canopy over the driver's cab, doors, scuttle and bonnet are grey, the ensemble having a smart appearance.
