We have recently received a copy of the motor log book and lubrication guide published by the Anglo-American Oil Co., Ltd., 36, Queen Anne's Gate, London, S.W.1. Copies of this book will be sent free of charge on application to the company. .It ineludes.,a register for details relating to the vehicle concerned and provides a supervision log in which are entered figures relating to mileage, fuel used, the dates of sump draining and the class of oil used for replenishment, There are also columns in which can he noted dates and mileages at which various major coniponents of the chassis receive atten
tion.
The log book also contains helpful information with regard to lubrication and a table of suitable grades of Pratts motor oil for all types of vehicle.
An Easily Fitted Folding Step.
A new pattern of folding step for affording access to the roofs of motor coaches and buses has lately been brought out by Mr. Albert Jagger, 5-8, Green Lane, Walsall. It is made of malleable iron and has a step area of 4I ins. by 4i ins. When folded the Projection is only 1 in., another feature being. that weight is not thrown upon the pin on which the step swivels, but on bosses cast on the step holder.
Any number of steps can, of course, be fitted to a bus, and it is claimed that the provision of these accessories is cheaper than the use of a roof ladder. The steps are supplied tmdrilled, it .being recommended that the fitting should be effected by the coachbuilder. Finished in nickel plate the steps cost Sc. 9d. each.
Roller Shutters for Van Bodies.
On more than one occasion we have drawn attention to the utility of roller shutters for use in connection with commercial-motor vehicles, and a concern specializing ih this class of equipment is H. Parker and Co., of 841, Battersea Park Road, London, S.W.11. The company has received numerous inquiries for its products, both from home and from abroad, and many repeat orders have been placed by well-known road-transport operators.
The proprietors of the new evening paper, Tke Evening World, which has recently been established in the north and west of England, have adopted Parker shutters for their delivery vans. It is interesting to note that at this year's Commercial Motor Show several of the bodies mounted upon chassis of well-known makes were equipped with this company's shutters.
Working Hours et Bus Operatives.
An attempt is to' be made by the licensing committee of Blyth TOP/11 Council to have conditions attached to all licenees, regarding the number of hours worked by bus operatives. The Blyth authorities urge that the Tyneside Regional Committee, which" has been set up for the control of bus traffic, should give its early consideration to the matter.
A Hearne Valley Organization.
An organization under the title of the Dearne Valley Motor Users Association has recently been formed, its object being to organize the owners of local passenger-transport undertakings. Mr. Hubert Burrows, of Wombwell, has been appointed first president.
Oldham Licences in Abeyance.
An application was recently submitted to the watch committee of Oldham Corporation on behalf of Manchester General Motor Coaches for licences in respect of vehicles proposed to be operated on routes from Manchester to Newcastle-on-Tyne, Oldham to Torquay, and Oldham to London, but as the vehicles proposed to be used were not produced the application was adjourned.
Portsmouth Corporation has prepared a Bill to enable it to provide for the replacement of the municipal tramways system by trolley-buses.
Record Year for Patents.
It is expected• that, for the first time in Great Britain, the number of patent applications made in a year will reach the 40,000 mark. Messrs. Hughes. and Young, the patent agents, of 9, Warwick Court, London, W.C.1, report that„ although bast year, with a figure of 38,556, 'broke all previous records, this year's figure will certainly be 1,500 higher.
Sorb° Trading.
The trading results of the Sorb* Rubber-Sponge Products, Ltd., for the year ended September 30th last reveal a net profitof approximately £6,000, which compares with a loss of £7,777 for the previous year. As many of our readers will be aware, the company makes certain goods which are finding much favour amongst bodybuilders and those who supply equipment for passeager vehieles.
Big Door-to-door Transport Scheme.
An arrangement has just been concluded between the Swiss Federal Railway authorities and the Sesa Union of road-transport undertakings, of Zurich, under which goods will be carried by road and rail 'direct from consignor's door right to consignee's premises at a single charge and with a single waybill. About 160 road-transport contractors are now associated with the Sesa Union, and they serve 350 railway stations and 600 small towns and villages in the country.
Bury Corporation is to erect a motorbus garage in Rochdale Road.
