BIRMINGHAM-BASED haulier Birds Groupage Services. which specialises in loads to Ireland and Germany, has boosted its pre-tax profits by more than £300,000.

In the year ending 31 January they reached £1.4m; up from £819,491 in 2004/5. Turnover rose slightly,from £15.5m to £15.7m.

The firm says the results are "satisfactory". It adds: "[We] expect current levels of turnover and profitability to be maintained."

Its directors also run JW Bird (Haulage), which provides transport to the firm. It employs 121 drivers and warehouse staff, up from 109 the previous year.
