On the trailer is a 15m glass fibre shark, mouth gaping menacingly. The shark has been there for three weeks, ever since its transporter broke down. Local police have no idea who the shark belongs to, though the trailer has Dutch number plates.

• Traffic wardens had a taste of their own medicine in York recently. They were striking it support of the 12% pay claim by NALGO, the local government union, and formed a pick et outside the police station. Police moved them on for causing an obstruction.
• The following is a true story told by Dr Nigel Kirkwood, chairman of the Tachograph Analysis Association.
A little girl on a school coac excursion was asked to do a project on a particular part of her trip. She chose tachographs, having watched the driver use the machine during the journey.
He had kindly explained all about the working of them ant even let her trace over his latest chart. She showed her project to her dad before taking it to school.
Dad, with an eagle eye, noticed that the driver was well over his allotted hours at reported the firm. A poor reward for the driver's friendly approach.
• The Automobile Association's emergency telephone box in Icklesham, Sussex has been sent a poll tax registration form.
• When Barbara Castle was offered the post of Transport Minister, she rushed to Hard Wilson and said: "But I can't even drive a car."
