Headed by John Martin-Law, the new operation has been formed to "capture a major share of the home delivery market". A mixed fleet of 100 lveco Ford 11-, 17and 38tonne trucks has been purchased and Systemcare has begun a recruitment drive to take on 250 extra staff.

Outbases have been established in 18 different UK areas including Preston, Leeds and Andover. Each site will operate three vehicles, apart from Airdrie and St Helens which will each operate six vehicles.

Systemcare will operate under the newly-formed Federal Express European Logistics Management Division along with Systemline, Elbe in Germany and TGA in Holland.

Under the six-year deal with Littlewoods. Systemcare will provide home delivery for heavy items such as furniture. Federal Express won a con tract to deliver light goods for Littlewoods in January 1989 when the firm bought the retailer's Home Delivery Service. This operation has been incorporated into Federal Express' Parcels Services.

"With Federal Express Parcel Services delivering lightweight products and Systemcare geared up for heavyweight items, we can now offer the most comprehensive third party home delivery service on the market," says Martin-Law.
