THE SECOND London Regional Transport service to be contracted to an independent bus operator is now in operation.
Crystals of Orpington is using a Reeve Burgess-bodied Leyland Cub (see picture) and a 25-seat Mercedes-Benz on service 146 between Downe and Bromley.
Crystals is soon to take delivery of two Cubs fitted with HTI Vehicles Maxeta bodies and ordered specifically for the service. The vehicles now used on the route will then revert to private hire, contract and other duties.
Crystals already operated an Orpington local service on a London Bus agreement and is keen to increase its share of local bus operation in this area of South-East London.
A package of services in the area is currently being put out to tender by LRT.
