Pandoro, the ferry and road haulage concern within P and 0 European Transport Services, has named John Ahern as senior executive in the Republic of Ireland.

He joins the company from the Irish refrigerated transport specialist Shertrans, where he was general manager. Before that he had been with Pandoro as a sales executive. As senior executive Mr Ahern has overall responsibility for the Irish end of Pandoro's activities, which include the freight ferry services between Fleetwood and Lame and Fleetwood and Dublin.

Norman Russell has been promoted to distribution manager for the vehicle finishes division of International Paint. Mr Russell, who was previously customer services manager, has been with International Paint for 38 years.

Johnny Johnston has moved to become general manager, Purfleet, for Tankfreight, the bulk distribution company in the National Freight Corporation. He was previously director and general manager for Artac.

The National Bus Company has appointed Brian Barrett to the new position of group marketing manager. Before taking up this post he was project manager (operations) for NBC's Market Analysis and Planning unit. Mr Barrett, who started his career in the bus industry with Crosville in 1967 will now head a small group developing marketing techniques for NBC and assisting subsidiary companies with marketing matters.

National Tyre Service has announced that Alan Maguire is its new regional sales manager for the North-west. He was formerly divisional manager, Tyne and Wear. Mr Maguire, who started his career with Dunlop, is based at Liverpool.

The Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders has a new legal adviser. He is David Cross, previously the consumer affairs manager at BL Cars division Austin Morris. He now heads the SMMT's legal and customer relations department.
