Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• Nottingham City Transport is having 16 buses fated with a vehicle identification system supplied by Philips Industries. The system, Vetag, has already been on trial at Leicester and this is a development from those tests.

The system is to be installed next month at Nottingham and consists of fixed equipment consisting of an interrogator and a loop. The vehicle carries a transponder and control unit. Information can be displayed at the roadside for passengers as well as being transmitted to a central control room.

The Nottingham buses will at first use the equipment to get priority at certain traffic signals either by prolonging "green" time or reducing "red" time.

Similar systems are being installed in Delft and Amsterdam while in New York trials are being carried out.
