FHE handling of palletized loads is made easier with the Unit-Lift equipsent available from the York Trailer ;o., Ltd.
Basically, the Unit-Lift is a gantry hoist thich runs along the side raves of the chicle platform, these being extended by antilever members, fitted at the rear then the hoist is in use. The pallets are ifted by steel bars which are passed arough the pallet frame and picked up y special lifting frames on each side. Vhen lifted above the platform height, he gantry travels along the body and the allets can be dropped on the platform. Skids for pallets up to 5 ft. long x 7 ft. 6 in, wide can be lifted by the hoist which has a maximum load capacity of 3 tons. Power is provided by a petrol engine mounted at the top of the gantry, which drives a direct-coupled hydraulic pump. The hoist can he controlled from either side of the gantry.
_.-hanges to Shutters A FTER three years' production of —1their Nyloy roller shutter, Dover Zoller Shutters, Ltd., London Road. Zomford, Essex, have now introduced a lumber of important changes in the pecification.
The spring roller casing, which was ireviously a 4-in.-diameter tin-plated heet-steel pressing, is replaced by a ight-alloy extrusion of the same liameter. No change has been made to he design of the nylon end blocks (these ,re fitted at deli end of alternate shutter aths), but the solid nylon guide blocks it the ends of the bottom rail are eplaced by double-nylon-wheel assem'lies.
It is anticipated that the change to iylon wheels will give easier and =other operation of the shutter and :liminate the chance of .binding. An ilternative lock is also offered.
Several bodies at this year's Commertial Motor Show are to have thc new lesign shutter fitted.
On Shipping Goods
FHE sixth issue of their Consular Guide has been published by Baker Iritt and Co., Ltd., 16 Upper Thames ltreet, London, E.C.4. This booklet will )e particularly useful to anyone responible for the preparation of documents or export shipment (the same documents ire needed for goods being shipped in 'chides) as it gives information on the equirements for consular and commerial invoices for over 100 countries.
The contents have been thoroughly evised and the result is a larger publicaion than previously. A monthly amendnent service is also provided. The guide s issued free of charge in November, vlarch and July and copies are obtainable rom Baker Britt and Co., Ltd
Michelin Films
TWO 16-mm. films made by The Michelin Tyre Co., Ltd., are now available for free distribution through their agents Sound Services, Ltd„ Wilton Crescent, Merton Park, London, S.W.19.
The first, a mixed cartoon and straight film in colour is called "Michelin in Pursuit of Progress." Lasting 18 minutes, it shows the development of Michelin tyres and illustrates many of the technical problems in tyre making. it also contains a description of the difference between " X " and conventional tyres.
The second "X and M.P.G." is a black and white film of one of the R.A.C. observed fuel-consumption tests on a Thames 7-ton vehicle. The film, by Michelin's publicity department. gives a pictorial record of the test.
Angle Bending Machine
I-1 A ROBUST hand bending machine suitable for use on black mild steel angles up to 2 in. x 2 in. x lie in. is now being marketed by Chamberlain Industries, Ltd., Staffa Works, Argall Avenue, London, E.10. Lifted as the Staffa IB2 series, three models are available. The UR/2C is for bending mild steel angle with the flange inwards, the UB/2D is for bending angle with the flange outwards and the U1B/2E will bend notched angle up to 2.5 in. x 2.5 in, x A in. section.
The basic machine can be supplied with formcrs for carrying out all three of the operations and the machine is available for bench mounting or it can be supplied mounted on a single column pedestal in which the various pins, blocks and formers can be stored.
Dunlop Map
ATEST in the successful Dunlop series of width-of-road maps, is one of Southern Scotland and Border Counties. Like the maps previously issued, this map (No. 5) gives an excellent indication of the type of road to be encountered. New and projected by-pass roads and motorways are included, together with town plans and an index to place names.
The map, which has a washable cover, costs 5s. and can be obtained from most booksellers or direct from Geographia, Ltd., 114 Fleet Street, London, E.C.4.
