TWO articulated tankers will be exhibited by Universal Boilers and Engineering Co., Ltd., at The Commercial Motor Show. The tanks have been designed for the transport of a variety of liquids and both are fabricated in stainless steel, are fully insulated, have provision for steam heating and are equipped fur pressure discharge.
The first, with a capacity of 3,750 gallons, was built for Bulk Liquid Transport—in association with John Ancliff and Bulwark Transport—for transport to the Continent. Mounted on York 16-ton running gear, the tank is coupled to an Atkinson tractive unit. The inner shell is a single compartment and is fabricated from welded stainless steel with an anti-surge baffle of the same material, Pressure for discharge is pro
vided by a Reavell compressor, working at 30 p.s.i. and driven by a power take-off on the tractive unit. The tank is insulated with a 2-in, layer of glass fibre and the outer skin is of aluminium. Steam heating can be applied by way of four external ducts on the underside of the vehicle.
The second tanker to be displayed was built for Harold Wood and Sons to carry oils and general chemicals in the U.K. and possibly on the Continent. The tank, which is basically similar in construction to the Other exhibit, has a capacity of 3.800 gal. andis mounted on CraneFruehauf running gear with an A.E.C. Mandator tractive unit. The singlecompartment stainless-steel tank has two anti-surge baffles, and the glass-fibre insulating mat is covered by an outer skin of stainless steel.
