THE first public presentation of a new version of the Guy Warrior Light-6 tipper took place last Saturday at Flookburgh, Lancs. The model then 'shown demonstrates the extension of the Light-6 and Light-8 range by the embodiment of double-drive rear axles, with 81-in worms, in place of the standard single-drive bogie with two-speed axle. In introducing this feature, coupled with certain optional variations. the objective of Guy Motors (Europe), Ltd., has been to meet more closely a wide range of truck and tipper operating requirements.
Centre-piece of the opening of the new Guy sales depot of Wm. Keith and Son, the Warrior Light-6 double-drive tipper is a 20-ton-gross machine with a 15-ft. 3-in. wheelbase. For chassis likely to be employed on particularly heavy-duty tipping work an 11-ft. 6-in, wheelbase is available, whilst there is also the alternative of 17 ft. 9 in. The model shown had the standard A.E.C. 7.7-litre oil engine, but the Gardner 6LW can be specified for either, the sixor the eightwheeler. Equipment included an 18-cu.yd. HamaHoy body with Pilot 0V15 twin-ram tipping gear and heavy-duty stabilizer.
Featured on a 14-ton-gross model, with six-speed overdrive gearbox, was a spacious forward-entrance cab produced for Guy's by Bowyer Bros., Ltd., Congleton. Among other show exhibits was a Warrior 24-ton-gross articulated unit with Gardner 5LW oil engine, sixspeed overdrive gearbox and two-speed axle.
Keith and Son operate a substantial general haulage fleet of their own. Outstanding among their vehicles, which were available for visitors' inspection, was a three-year-old Guy Invincible Mk. II that had covered 180,000 miles without major overhaul.
