• A number of owner-drivers are owed money by Northwich-based Merlin Freight Services, which has gone into voluntary liquidation with the loss of six jobs. The company was started by John Wright more than 25 years ago. It ran 40 trailers on the the Irish Sea route on general haulage and also used outside contractors.

Wright blames the company's demise on Iwo large bad debts but says: "We anticipate paying a minimum of 40p in the pound." A creditors' meeting was held on 16 April.
