• The Road Haulage Wages Council is to meet on .May 1 to consider the claim for a £16 lOs minimum by the trade union panel, and the offer of a £16 minimum made quite independently by the employers panel.
It is possible that the general approach to the matter of a new minimum will have been settled at an informal meeting, due to have been held yesterday (Thursday) between representatives of employees and employers. The employers are known to be anxious to have some productivity factors, such as 4Q mph running, agreed as a consequence of any increase in the basic minimum pay.
