Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

CARLSBERG UK has axed storage operations at two of its sites in order to streamline logistics costs. The brewer has decided to offer only delivery services from its facilities in Rhyl, north Wales, and Kendal. Cumbria, and consolidate the existing warehouse operations into other depots in its network, which comprises one NDC, four RDCs and several smaller depots.

Around 15 jobs were lost as a result of the changes, which took effect as of 13 September.

However, redundancies were minimised through redeployment in the network.

Mark Groves, national distribution director for Carlsberg UK, tells CM: "There have been volume declines in those regions, and part of my job is to reduce the cost base.

"No driver roles have been affected as transport is still very much part of our core business."

He says that cost cutting will continue next year after Carlsberg has improved efficiency by using new telematics and increasing the number of truck backloads.
