• A working party is drawing up training plans and pricing structures for companies to escort abnormal loads, bringing the prospect of privatisation in the sector nearer.
The party comprising police, Home Office and DOT officials is deciding on the criteria needed for training civilians to take over the police's role in escorting abnormal loads on British Roads.
It is hoped training standards will reach NVQ levels.
