• Walkers Smiths Snack Foods is operating five close-coupled drawbars that take two 8m bodies within the 18m overall limit. Tidd-bodied twin-axle Leyland Daf 95-330 chassis and centrebogie trailers are coupled with Ray Smith Group's Supavol system, which reduces the gap from the conventional 1,200mm to a minimum of 150mm.
The high-capacity bodies can take 32 pallets current artics take 26—and have through access to the truck for fork-lift loading.
The Dutch-designed Supavol coupling uses mechanical sensors to detect the vertical or horizontal angle between truck and trailer.
