Whilst I agree with the SM MT alarm at imports of Japanese vehicles I would point out that there are gaps in the British market and to rub salt in the wound there is a price difference.

We live in a country area and we need small narrow vehicles. The two small ice-cream vans on the market are Marina or Fiat. The latter though dearer is a 10/ 12cwt and is narrow for country lanes.

For five years we have been looking for a 1-tonner and up come Datsun at £2,023; the nearest BMC is the 10cwt at £2,200. Both ourselves and many local farmers who need compact payloads naturally look to this vehicle. What else are we supposed to do? V. F. SHARP, Country Girl Ices, Wincanton.
