Association seems likely to make an increasingly effective contribution to the Association, writes John Darker.
Branches have been set up in Bristol and the East Midlands, and last week the London and South Eastern branch of YES was launched at a Lewisham meeting.
The constitution of YES has been approved by the National Council, and its chairman Alicia Gains — an executive with Gains Transport Services Ltd, Deptford — praises the help given to the section's steering committee by director-general, George Newman.
YES will provide a forum to help members understand the organisation and methods of the RHA.
It will arrange conferences on topics relevant to the industry and canvas opinions, recommendations and suggestions of members for consideration by the RHA National Council, functional groups, area committees or the section's national committee.
Full membership is open to people between the ages of 18 and 35 employed by member firms who are in a managerial position or are being trained for executive responsibilities.
Alicia Gains told CM that she was optimistic about the potential of YES.
The bulk of the membership so far had been drawn from the larger road haulage companies and YES was very concerned to stress that all young executives in the industry were elegible to join, whatever the size of firm.
