Tribute to CMLDoY founder

SPEAKING at the CM LDoY finals on Sunday, council chairman Gerry Aston paid tribute to the association's founder member Bob Brain who died in June.

He told competitors and spectators that, without Mr Brain, the competition would never have reached 1977, its twenty-fourth year.

Mr Brain was chairman of the Coventry Accident Prevention Council when the suggestion for the competition was made and he used his many contacts within the industry to set up the first contest.

He joined TGWU general secretary Jack Jones in the organisation of the 1952 and 53 contests with television's Raymond Baxter as commentator.

At National Travel, new deputy coaching director is Edward Dravers who will be responsible to coaching director Richard Roberts in his new job.

He moves to his new job from being general manager and controller of National Travel, a post he moved to in June.

Also at National, Ken Wellman has become general manager of the Bristol Omnibus Company. He is at present general manager of National Travel (South West) where he has been since 1972.

At the same time, Bill Jelpke becomes general manager of the East Kent company. He was appointed to his present job of general manager of the Potteries company in 1974.
