THE Birmingham transport department is operating experimentally a Crossley bus equipped with the Brock house-Salerni Turbo-transmitter. Exhaustive tests are to be made over all routes with a view to obtaining figures relative to fuel consumption, as well as reliability, together with the general effect on passenger comfort.
MANCHESTER CARRIES OUT BUS CENSUS TN order to provide figures for a 1 review of the arrangement of bus services in the centre of the city, Manchester Corporation last week distributed a large number of questionnaires.
The sheets were handed out to passengers waiting at city terminal points, and they were asked to return the forms to members of the staff 'later on.
Questions on the sheets were: (1) • What is the number of the service on Which you travel home ? (2) Is this the stop you normally use ? (3) What is your business address? (4) Is there a more convenient stop for you nearer to your place of business ? (5) If so, which is it ? (6) Approximately how long have you had to queue ?

AFURTHER 10 undertakings were acquired by the Road Haulage Executive from September 1 to September 10, 1949. They are as follows:—
NEW REGISTRATIONS FALL
THE number of new commercial vehicles registered in June, 1949, felt by nearly 600 from the previous month's figure. There was, however, an increase in the number of oilengine(' goods vehicles newly registered, 601 as compared with 581 in May.
The most marked decrease has been on the number of goods vehicles of all categories registered in June, a fall of 272.
The vehicles registered in June bring the total of commercial vehicles registered for the first time this year to 92.796. • A. summary of the statistics, published .by the Ministry, of Transport, is given below.
