Details of the New Leyland Tiger 22-seaters Supplied to Crosville Motor Services for Long-distance operation.

OME excellent vehicles have been in production lately for the Crosville Motor Services, which, as readers are aware, were acquired from the Crosville Motor Co., Ltd., in October, 3929, by the London, Midland and Scottish Railway Co. The undertaking has developed tremendously in recent years and now comprises some 150 regular services over approximately 1,400 miles of route, serving about 450 towns and villages in Wales, Lancashire, Shropshire, Staffordshire, etc. The area covered has a population of about 4,000,000.

The new coaches to -which we refer have Leyland Tiger chassis, and the bodywork is by P. W. Watson and Sons, Ltd., the well-known coachbuilding concern, of Lowestoft. Mr. C. C. Taylor, the general manager of the Crosville undertaking, has shown keen interest in the specification.

The standard vehicle has the Walman centre-sliding type of all-weather roof, which is operated by means of a fixed handle at the front The driver's cab is of the half-width type with fullwidth canopy, and the rear'portion of

the domed roof is specially strengthened to take a considerable quantity of luggage, the luggage rail consisting of strong steel tubes. . Access to this compartment is by means of nickel-plated folding steps.

The seats are of the armchair type, all the cushions being double sprung. One feature btipulated by the operating concern is the Triplex unsplinterable glass which is employed for the windows of the front bulkhead and the driver's cab.

The interior finish has been carried out in a handsome manner, all the woodwork being hand-polished walnut. The seats are upholstered in dark red leather embossed with the letters C.M.S. Nickel-plated parcel racks of an extra wide pattern are fitted along the contrails, and are so arranged as not to obstruct the light from the roof lamps, five of which are fitted at each side.

A particular point in the construction is the new Watson type of vertical and horizontal moulding, which, apart from concealing the panel-fixing screws, serves to give additional strength to the body sides.

The exterior finish is in the Crosville colours, the upper portion of the body being painted green and the panelling below the waist-rail grey. The mouldings are in dark green. Altogether the body construction appears to have been admirably carried out; and constitutes a good representation of the workmanship of the Lowestoft concern.
