Rising CPC costs alarming

COMPANIES PROVIDING training for the new Driver CPC warn that rising costs for centre approval and course auditing will be passed on to new drivers, which could deter them from entering the industry.

A CM investigation into the costs trainers and hauliers are incurring to comply with the changes has shown a growing dissatisfaction over the way the Joint Approvals Unit for Periodic Training (JAUPT) is working. Course audits by JAUPT rose from a flat tee of £250 per course to E36 per hour in April, and trainers are complaining that site assessments involve a lump sum of £1,500, which is three times more than they pay for other industry sectors.

John McKenna of Chevron Training says: -If we had known about the aggravation, we would have thought twice about offering it."
