THE LONG-awaited by-pass at Bridgnorth, Shropshire, gets under way this month following the acceptance by the County Council of a tender of E2.25m for the construction of a new bridge over the River Severn.

The contract started on October 11 with a two year construction period.

The bridge, forms part of a £5m scheme to ease a major bottleneck through the historic town.

A £140,000 tender has also been accepted for a new bridge under the Severn Valley Light Railway, to take the Bridgnorth by-pass through a railway embankment.
