A look at some of the equipment, accessories and parts on exhibition at this year's Show

Autogem is using the Show for the British launch of its increased range of commercial vehicle exhaust fittings, in addition to launching its brand new four-language catalogue, Exhaust Fittings for Light Commercial Vehicles.

Autogem claims to supply "all the day-to-day needs of the exhaust replacement market". The company's stand can be found in hall 7, no. 726.

Autogem Ltd, PO Box 9, Howley Park, Morley, Leeds Tel (0532) 530451.

Holset Engineering's stand (no. 523) will feature turbochargers with improved compressors, turbines and bearing systems.

The turbochargers are simple, lightweight and designed for vehicle engines in the 37 to 485kW (50 to 650bhp) per unit range.

They are designed to operate with exhaust temperature of up to 750°C, their rotors turning at up to 150,000 rpm using fully floating bearings lubricated by engine oil.

Factory rebuilt, fully guaranteed exchange units are available, offering cost savings over new turbochargers and have the service support of 3,000 Lucas/ CAV turbo-clinics in addition to the engine and manufacturer's distribution network.

Also on display are energy saving, air temperature sensing fan drives, which are designed for commercial vehicle and bus applications. Their power requirement is automatically reduced when engine cooling is not required, saving fuel and energy, increasing belt life and reducing noise.

In addition, there are a range of crankshaft, rubber and viscous dampers individually tuned for optimum performance to reduce crankshaft stresses and engine noise levels while minimising wear on gear and chain drives.

High technology rubber products for specialised automotive, industrial and mining applications can also be seen. Holset Engineering Co Ltd, Automotive Division, PO Box 149, Turn bridge, Huddersfield, West Yorkshire HD 1 6RD. Tel: (0484) 22244.

Burmah-Castrol Industrial's stand (no 520) at Birmingham will be promoting its products used in three separate areas of operation — light commercial vehicles, general haulage and public services.

Each area of operation has different operating conditions, says Burmah-Castrol. On show will be special purpose grades for each sector, such as gear oils, running-in oils and transmission fluids. Castrol representatives will be in attendance throughout the Show to answer any queries on the product range.

Big J Auto Parts, Europe's brand leader for four-wheel drive after market equipment, will introduce: its latest vehicle snow ploughs; new mobile 12volt operated searchlights; a complete range of accessories for the new Ford P100 pick-up; and additional equipment for the new Suzuki 4x4 at this year's Show. Motor Panels makes its debut at Birmingham on stand 524 by exhibiting its mate's folding seat. Covered in an open weave material with a plastic moulded seat base and back, it can be folded up and stowed away when not required.

It incorporates a tensioning device in the form of a carbonfibre spring. The seat gives additional stowage space and, claims Motor Panels, affords cost and weight saving over conventional seats.

Also on show is the Hemi Tech seat which is an integral part of Motor Panels' pressed, all-welded aluminium cab. It is designed to offer an additional sleeping berth and make the most of available cab space.

The back portions of the driver's and mate's seats are folded forward to form the ends of the lower bunk while the upper bunk drops down from its stowed position onto them.

Both seats and bunks are covered with a strong open-weave cloth for support and comfort. The loose fitting trim is remove ble, washable, reversible and can be supplied in a variety of shades to blend with operators' livery and company colours.

A tensioning device is fitted to tighten the material after periods of use.

There will also be a further range of seats incorporating the main characteristics of the HemiTech seat but specifically designed for cross-country vehicles and panel vans.

Motor Panels (Coventry) Ltd, Holbrook Lane, Coventry CV6 4AVV. Tel: 020385831. the Quinton Hazell stand at the 1982 show is claimed to reflect the wide spectrum of activities by companies in the OH group.

OH engineering resources will be underlined by an exhibit illustrating the body and cab prototype development work carried out for vehicle manufacturers in Britain, and will be highlighted by its two motor industry award winning innovations — the OH underrider and the OH thermofan. OH underrider is an energyabsorbing vehicle anti-underrun device and is now selling in large numbers ahead of impending legislation. Thermofan, which won a Design Council award earlier this year, is a temperature-sensitive cooling fan which is now on test with major European vehicle manufactur

ers. OH is on stand 130 at the show.

Part of Garlock (GB) Ltd, the company will be exhibiting Stemco hub seals, the Monroe moisture ejector for compressed air systems, Stemco exhaust clamps, Garlock precision seals and a range of friction products.

It is also hoped that Stemco will be able to announce the addition of two new products to its range at the Show.

Vale°, the French automotive component manufacturer (one of the largest in Europe), is exhibiting a number of major new developments in vehicle starting, lighting and ignition equipment on stand 204.

The new D9R reduction gear starter motor, which has just been launched by Paris-Rhone, will be among the exhibits.

When compared with a conventional starter motor design with an equal power output of 1.5 to 2.7kW, Valeo claims the D9R is 50 per cent higher, smaller in size and has an extremely high starting torque which allows for efficient low temperature operation.

It is also claimed to be particularly suited to high compression engines, cold weather modified engines, diesel engines up to three-lit re cylinder capacity, plus tractor and industrial engines.

Other Valeo automotive components on show will include clutch assemblies, friction material, non-welded aluminium radiators and cooling, ventilation and air conditioning systems. The Tenvox range of in-cab hi-fl has established what the company describes as an "enviable reputation for quality and reliability" since its introduction to the UK at the last NEC Motor Show.

The range has been extended and this year's stand features a selection of stereo cassette decks; a total of 12 stereo radio/cassettes from seven to 88 watts output; speakers from seven to 70 watts power handing; and a complete range of compatible audio accessories.

Star of the stand is claimed to be the Tenvox "mini wizard", the CE131, which is said to have an endless list of functions. Stand 210.

There will be direct replacement carburettors for Bedford HA and CF vans, Transit vans and Land-Rovers; Altecna diesel equipment — nozzles, injectors and pumps as fitted as original equipment to Fiat, Iveco, etc; and IHI turbochargers for aftermarket fitting to petrol or diesel engines. Weber will be on stand 209.
