THE PROPOSED DAY of transport action by the Trades Union Congress in support of the health workers has been confirmed for Monday, November 8.
After a meeting of the transport industry's union representatives last week, members were asked to stop work for 24 hours, a TUC spokesman told CM.
The various health workers unions will also be taking action on November 8.
"It will be up to the individual members what action they take," he explained. Should members chose to ignore the call, the TUC will decide later what action, if any, should be brought against them.
Transport and General Workers' Union commercial group secretary Jack Ashwell told CM he expected the TGWU as a whole would meet some time this week to discuss the details of the TUC call.
Reacting to 'the formal announcement from the TUC, Road Haulage Association national chairman Harold Russett said last Saturday; "In these hard times, it must be absolute folly to call such a strike."
