The Rytecraft Scoota-truck is a Replica of a Lorry, Carries 5-cwt. Loads and is Capable of 40 m.p.h. THE little Rytecraft Scoota-cars made by the British Motor Boat Manufacturing Co., Ltd., Ampton Street, London, W.C.1, are well known, and now the company has produced a commercial vehicle bunt on similar lines. As can be seen from the accompanying illustration, it resembles doSely an orthodox tilt lorry, and whilst intended for use as a delivery van, and rated to carry 5 cwt., its main object is to attract publicity,
Equipped with an Albion three-speed and reverse gearbox, and Dunlop 16 by 4 pneumatic tyres, the vehicle has a Villiers 21 h.p. two-stroke engine, air cooled by a fan. Transinission ftbm power unit to gearbox and thence to the solid rear axle is by chain, the slack run of the primary drive being taken over the fan sprocket. A fly wheel-magneto on the Crankshaft supplies current for ignition. '
Claimed to be capable. of over 40 ni.p.h. and to have a consumption rate of 80 m.p.g., this novel delivery van costs fl90.
The main dimensions. are. as follow: Wheelbase, 5 ft. 6 track:: 2 ft. 10 ins.; body lengths, 3 ft. 6 ins.; width inside, 2' ft. 4 ins.; and height from
floor to roof, 2 ft. 6 ins. Thus the body capacity is roughly 20 cubic ft.
Atl the normal controls are provided and the driving compartment affords adequate space. Direct wheel steering is provided and the underslung Chassis, which is unsprung at the front, is of
tubular construction. At the rear a single transverse spring, anchored at itsends to the frame, is pivOted centrally, by a rubber-bush bearing, to a sub-frame„ mounted on the axle and carrying the engine and gearbox, the latter being vertical and behind the axle, whilst the former is in front of it. At its front end this sub-frame is similarly mounted. A kick starter is provided on the off side at the extreme
rear.
The. whole vehicle is of workmanlike construction, whilst in appearance it is smart and its novelty cannot. fait to attract attention...
