• Lorries carrying perishable goods such as milk, live animals and newspapers will be excluded from the Austrian ban on night driving which starts next month.

The Austrians have told EC Transport Commissioner Kare van Meirt that an exception will be made until May 1990. Other individual exemptions can be made on application to the Austrian authorities.
