He succeeds Brian Heron who retires in Decem3er after 35 years with TBA. • CHRISTIAN SALVESEN CRAIG/SALVESEN Freddie Craig, managing director of Christian Salvesen Distribution, has left the company. Andrew Salvesen, currently chairman of Salvesen Oilfield Technology, is relinquishing that position to become a non-executive director of Christian Salvesen.
• BIRCH GROUP BUTLER/CLARK/RILEY Charles Butler has been appointed managing director of Longton Storage and Transport, part of the Birch Group.
David Clark takes up the post of managing director of Bulk Storage, another Birch Group company which operates warehousing in the South-East.
Brian Riley is the new chairman of Stockton Haulage and its subsidiaries, recently acquired by Birch. He will retain his post of managing director of Fenton Truck Centre.
• SPARSHATTS BUCKLEY Bob Buckley, a former director of Adcliffe's, has been appointed general manager of the Hampshire-based bodybuilder Sparshatts.
• BEDWAS HUNT A new post of sales estimator at Lancashire bodybuilder Bedwas has been filled by Bernard Hunt. He has worked for the company for three years, formerly as a chargehand. • CHILTERN LEASING CLATVVORTHY Chiltern Leasing has taken on Mike Clatworthy as area sales manager.
• FEDERAL EXPRESS GORDON Ian Gordon is the new personnel director at Federal Express Systemline. He joins from BOC where he was personnel manager.
• MDSG DONAG HUE Accountant Stephen Donaghue joins Magazine Distribution Service Group as director of finance and administration.
• BAINBRIDGE SILENCERS BATES Stuart Bates has taken up the new post of sales manager, Timax shock absorbers, manufactured by Bainbridge. He has worked with Armstrong Patents and BIG Batteries. • AUTOGLASS MCDOWELL Heather McDowell has been promoted from supervisor at Autoglass to manager, responsible for the workshop staff and vans at the Cambridge-based company.
• FERRTMASTERS HILL Martin Hill has joined Ferrymasters' French division as sales representative, based at Dover. He joins Ferrymasters from Kent company Intercity Trucks.
• BFI WASTECARE SEARLESANASLEY Chris Searles has been promoted to the new post of UK marketing development manager of BFI Wastecare. He has been with the company since 1984, working in the Middle East and the UK.
Mike Wasley replaces Searle as district manager at BFI Wastecare's Cannock site.
• MEL LOGISTICS PECKNE ITCH Exel Logistics — Consumer and Industrial has appointed two managing directors: Francis Peck will head the consumer division, and is promoted from Exel's Fashionflow division where he was director of warehousing; and Ian Veitch is taking charge of the industrial sector.
• MERSEYBUS THOMAS Gwyn Thomas is retiring from Merseybus at the end of this year. His most recent post was chief-executive and managing director. Thomas has worked in public transport in the North-West for 44 years.
• OBITUARIES JOHN DAVIES John Davies, formerly managing director of Exel Logistics' Chillflow division, has died after a long illness.
ALEC DRUMMOND Alec Drummond, who retired from his post of executive director at Walter Alexander earlier this year because of ill health, has died. He was with the company for 41 years.
