• Scottish employers have won an undertaking by the Transport and General Workers Union that workers will not participate in any English wage disputes that might follow 1990 wage claims.
This year's first wage agreement with the Road Haulage Association includes a £10.45 basic increase on all rates (up 8.3%). Subsistence rates will rise 7.3%.
Employees with five years' service will be entitled to an extra week's holiday from 1996, and night rates will increase from time-and-a-fifth to time-and-a-quarter. Night rates and holidays will be dropped from future pay negotiations.
Sick pay insurance is to be upped by £10 and personal effects insurance cover will rise from £75.00 to £100.00.
