THE Industrial Court has given its decision in the care of the claim for higher pay for maintenance and repair grades employed by the Road Haulage Executive. The Transport and General Workers' Union asked for 3d. an hour more and the R.H.E. offered 21-d.
The R.H.E.'s offer has been upheld by the Court. Hourly rates in London are now as follows: Skilled, 3s. 01d.; semi-skilled I, 2s. 91d.; semi-skilled II, 2s. 71(1.: unskilled, 2s. 6d. Provincial rates are lid. less in each case. There are proportional increases for juniors. The grant will cost the R.H.E. about £250,000 a year.

tion Transport Department celebrated its 50th anniversary. The department commenced operations on that date in 1901, after having acquired the private company which had operated horsed trams since 1879. The municipal undertaking now has a fleet of 104 vehicles, of which 57 are double-deck trolleybuses.

HYDERABAD GOVERNMENT TAKES OVER
BEFORE the end of the year, the Government of Hyderabad will take over 5,000 miles of State-owned transport services following integration of the Nizam State Railway with the cen
tral zone. At present, road transport services in the State are being managed by the Ministry of Railways on an agency basis. Under the new scheme, the road services will be controlled by a corporation to be established under the Road Transport Corporation Act, 1950 NEW GARAGE: REPORT SOUGHT
A FULL report has been called for by f-Lthe Scottish Home Department from St. Andrews Town Council on its proposal to allow W. Alexander and Sons, Ltd., to build a garage at Station Road. Protests have been made to the Department by owners of adjoining property.
The council has stated that there will be no loss of amenity and that night work will be limited to servicing and minor repairs.
