ISLE OF WIGHT haulier Steve Porter Transport has invested £750,000 on 40 new trailers.
The upgraded fleet will operate out of the firm's Cowes headquarters and its depots in Portsmouth and Southampton.
The company, which entered into a load and resource-sharing partnership with Meachers Global Logistics last autumn, operates a cross-Solent drop-trailer operation as preferred freight partner of Red Funnel.
It has 29 trucks and 60 trailers in its fleet, traditionally relying on subcontractors during peak times to handle volume, something the Meachers tie-up partly addresses.
Steve Porter Transport MD Malcolm Gibson said: "The new trailers [which replace existing stock] represent significant investment for the business, but one that will enable us to continue to expand our national and international freight offering.
"We have ambitious plans for the future of the business and our long-term strategy reflects the need to continually evolve to meet the changing needs of the workplace," he added.
Half of the order has been fulfilled by manufacturer BS Trailers, which will deliver the balance over the next three to four months.
• CM Downton has ordered 180 Cartwright trailers to service existing business and provide additional capacity.
The order consists of doubledeck and hydraulic deck trailers, including longer-length and aerodynamic versions.
