Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• I recently spotted a small write-up about a tachograph course in your Operator's Handbook section.

As I like to continually update my skills and qualifications I rang the course organiser, the BRS Training Centre at Birmingham, to book a place. It had a course running in two days' time, so I took the last place available. The course started promptly at 09:00hrs and was divided into two sections: drivers' hours was covered in the morning and drivers' records in the afternoon. Instruction was also given in tachograph operation, calibration and how to analyse a tachograph disc. All this was explained extremely clearly by course tutor Gerry McMullen.

The high marks for the two tests at the end of the course confirmed that everyone had achieved their objectives and learned something. The course was well worth the £30 fee which included an excellent cold buffet lunch and comprehensive course notes.

I think every effort should be made by employers to train their drivers in the skills they require to carry out their work. Sadly, all too often it is left up to individuals to take care of themselves. Ilona Richards Burton upon Trent, Staffs.
