Robert Clement, Democrat representative for Tennessee, wants tougher penalties for those convicted of pedalling within the zones. Clement concedes "most drivers are responsible and dedicated" but aims to send an "unmistakable message" to those who sell drugs at truckstops. "They will be punished and punished severely," he says.
So far attempts to legislate random drug testing in the truck industry have failed in Congress.
