licence application form, fraudulently using a vehicle registration mark, using a Ministry plate with intent to deceive, using a vehicle without an excise licence, using a vehicle without an Operator's Licence, and using a vehicle without a test certificate.
Prosecuting, Katherine Greenwood said that Stirrup had been running two identical Bedfords with the same registration plates and documents. When asked for an explanation Stirrup had said he had bought one of the vehicles from a scrap yard and was doing it up. His business had suffered financially as he had been undercut by a firm in Liverpool running illegally. He had thought he would get a few months cheap running out of the spare vehicle to get him out of financial difficulty and had obtained a duplicate excise licence by saying that the original had been lost. Magistrates fined Stirrup £2,950 and ordered him to pay £1,160.83 back duty.
