Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

NEW MEON SERVICE • Outline planning clearance has been sought to develop a motorway service area at Meon on the M27, north east of Fareh,am.

The proposal, for facilities on both sides of the motorway about 1.6km east of junction 9 near Park Gate, requires clearance from Winchester City Council.

At present drivers travelling east along the M27 from the M3 and A33 or west along the M27 from the A3 and A3(M) has to leave the motorway to find services.

M25 REPAIRS • Repairs to the M25 have begun between Junctions 8 and 9 (Reigate to Leatherhead). The work will involve contraflow for up to four months, with a 50mph (80 Ism/h) speed limit.

The DTP warns that delays will occur, particularly during peak periods. Through traffic trucks are advised to keep to the motorway, but local motorists should seek alternative routes.

MORE MI REPAIRS • The next stage in the major reconstruction of the MI between Junctions 9 (A5 Friars Wash) and 10 (Luton Airport) will now start on 30 May, after the Spring Bank Holiday: this is due to difficulties being experienced by the contractors in obtaining essential materials.

SAFETY FENCE

• A new 101m length of central reserve safety fence is to he built on the M6/A74 London-to-Scotland route in Cumbria.

The scheme, costing over 2300,000, will link from the M6 at Carlisle to the existing safety fence on the A74 near Gretna in Scotland. As the work is carried out over a seven week period traffic will be reduced to a single lane on each carriageway.
