The Margos admitted to fraud involving Red Car Services (Norwich). They and Ronald Dalton, Edward Dickens and Keith Rose were cleared of conspiring to contrive the Companies Act by defrauding creditors of nine coach companies and n conspiring to contravene the Theft Act by obtaining money by deception from banks and finance houses in relation to the same nine companies.
In directing the jury to return not guilty verdicts on the conspiracy counts Judge 1 Alistair Troup said that it . was with considerable hesitation and after much thought that he accepted defence arguments that the two counts were fatally flawed and bad in law. They were roll-up counts of conspiracy where a number 1, of alleged offences had been put together. A basic principle was that no one count should contain more than one offence.
